  • Where is Libera located?
The sanctuary is run from our home which sits within 10 acres of land. The closest town/city to us is Wrexham in North Wales. For the safety of all our residents (including us humans), we don't publicise our full address. If you would be interested in visiting or helping out at the sanctuary, please get in touch and we can provide more detail.
  • Who runs Libera and looks after the animals?
Libera was founded by Mark and April in 2022 in North Wales. Mark is a local who grew up down the road in the village of Coedpoeth. April comes from further afield with a mixed background, having lives in the US, Italy and London before heading up to North Wales. Together Mark and April look after the sanctuary and its residents.
  • Can people come to visit Libera?
Unfortunately Libera is not open to the public. We would be happy to consider individual requests for visits on a case-by-case basis, bearing in mind that the sanctuary is also home to us humans and we work full-time to fund the sanctuary. If you are interested in volunteering to help with the care of the animals, please check out our volunteer page.
  • Is Libera plant-based / vegan?
At Libera we are a vegan household and sanctuary. Although we welcome people from all walks of life to support us and volunteer if desired, out of respect for the animals, we ask that no animal products are brought on site.
  • What type of animals live at Libera?
We currently have sheep, goats and cats living at the sanctuary. We also do what we can to look after the local wildlife with lots of birds, hares, foxes, insects, toads, etc (including a resident pheasant called Bill). In the future we hope to expand to take in a wider array of species.
  • I know an animal in need, what do I do?
If you are aware of a farm animal in need in or around North Wales, please get in touch by email or through our contact form. We will do what we can to help, even if we don't have a place for them here at Libera.
  • Where have the animals at Libera come from?
Animals come to the sanctuary from lots of different places, always with consent (i.e. we do not steal or take animals against their current keeper's wishes). We get referrals from other sanctuaries, from local farmers or vets and from supporters of the sanctuary. Transporting farm animals long distances is difficult (for the animals) so typically our residents have come from reasonably close.
  • How is the sanctuary funded?
We are very fortunate to be able to fund the running of the sanctuary with our own earnings and savings. Through careful planning (both financial and practical), we are confident the sanctuary will not need any external funding.
  • Can I donate money to Libera?
We are fully self-funded and are not set up as a charity to receive donations. The best way you can support the sanctuary is to like and follow our social media pages and/or donate your time as a volunteer. If you aren't able to volunteer and want to do something for the animals, we do have a wishlist of helpful items, toys and supplies that can be purchased for them. If you would be interested in purchasing something, please get in touch by email or the contact form and we will provide further details.
